Many Thanks guys, but I don't think it's that one, as there are lines with 7 syllables, awell as those with 8 - and the poem was more moving than that Tahiti one; it may have even been one of his war poems, but Many Thanks again.
Hi Woodelf

Just had a quick look round and it seems Rupert Brooke favoured 8-syllable lines a lot. Found these

Tiare Tahiti
The Fish
Heaven
Grantchester

Do you remember what the poem was about?
ism is 2 sylables in my world
> ism is 2 syllables in my world

Can't help that - it isn't...
just because you say it's so, doesn't make it so. I don't know how you pronounce it, but (for example) to my ear "feminism" sounds fem-in-is-um
-ism. Two distinct sounds, two syllables
Why is it only one MarkRae? Tried looking up definition of syllable but it seemed to support the idea that it is two and as others have said I would say iz-um.
> just because you say it's so, doesn't make it so.

Likewise! You can pronounce it as if there's a vowel between the s and the m if you like - some people pronounce the second month of the year like FEB-you-werry
well i think we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one MR :)
How can you pronounce -ism in one syllable? I can't
nor me...

Film is one syllable because the l slides naturally into the m (though a small number of people do say fillum). I can't do the same with schism. I've never heard anyone else do so either.
How many syllables are there in "rhythm"?
2?
I agree with shaneystar2.
Tiare Tahiti
"Schism", "rhythm". Both have two syllables. "Ism" and "thm" are both syllables: an amazing language we do have.
