Hello! Does anyone know whether Bernard Cornwell's Sharpe series has been translated into French? I've started reading the fifth episode and I 'd love shring my discovery with my husband (unfortunately non-English speaker...).

That's a very good idea, thank you spudqueen, I had no idea this association existed. The reason why I was asking, is also that I would  be interested in translating Sharpe myself... As for going down well with the Frenchies (Cornwell would say the "crapauds"), we're not all as chauvinistic as you seem to think, LeMarchand!!! (You've got a French name, are you ? French, I mean ?) Anyway, all those stories took place 200 years ago, and I think we have overcome this "perfide Albion" stuff. It is true that I happened to consider Cornwell's view of Napoleon's army as the possible reason for French publishers not to be interested in it, given the fact that his Grail quest seems to be quite successful in France. Well, I might try my luck and contact him if I can (Cornwell, not Sharpe, of course). Any idea how I could manage this. Write to Harper and Collins, maybe? Thanks jno and dafyd too.

xmanfe1999: My forum name is actually a character from a series of films (although he's only seen in the fourth). My real name is French, though!

Anyway, there's a contact form for BC at his website: http://bernardcornwell.net/index.cfm . I would have thought that the translation would only be financially viable if there is a publish eager to publish. Harper Collins may only have the UK publishing rights, but I dare say Mr. C (who claims to respond to his mail) will be able to advise!
