In which books is there an 'intergalactic garbage scow' or 'interstellar garbage scow'?

I think it's in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - if so, which of the five books?

Thanks!

The only reference I can find is to a US TV series - nowt to do with HHGTTG

Is this the one where the grabage ship driver dumps all the collected garbage of the solar system on the only planet which had been ruined sufficiently to be treated in such a way... Earth?

I think the driver's name was "Ed" and he'd spent many decades writing "Ed Waz Ere" across Russia.

If it's not HHGTG, it may be one of the Red Dwarf books?
I can't find that character I was after in this list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_minor_The_Hitchhiker%27s_Guide_to_the_Galaxy_characters

So what I'm thinking of could be related to this: http://reddwarf.wikia.com/wiki/Earth
I'm a huge fan of the Hitchhiker's Guide books and I'm sorry but the garbage scow is not from any of them.
