hi - have just finished the book and i think i may have missed something in the middle (i did skim over some of the more boring or gory parts). What was the real story - the tiger/hyena/zebra one or the cook/sailor/mother one?

The cook/sailor/mother story is the real one in the book. But the book itself is a metaphor for how religious "truth" is a better story than the real truth.

The book is so short but the survival as depicted in the film is worthy viewing

There was one event in the book that I hoped wasn't going to be in the film.
Thankfully Ang Lee skipped it.

The bit where he is desperately hungry and attempts to eat some of Richard Parker's erm...... how best to put it..... 'leavings'.

It's the one part I'm glad Ang Lee overlooked!

Is this book worth reading? I've had it for over a month now and can't bring myself to reading it.

It's a superb book society and Ang Lee brought it to the screen magnificently IMHO.
