Somewhere in the Bible, I think it is in the New Testament, there is a mention of someone chastising another for greeting him in the street. Can anyone point me to the chapter and verse please?

Jonathon, I'm not sure. How it came about was as follows. An old teacher of mine told me recently that whilst walking to school one morning in the 1950's he past our Headmaster and said "good morning" to him without receiving a reply. A little later in assembly the Headmaster quoted a passage from the Bible that made it plain that to greet someone in the street was not the done thing. All very odd I must agree but I've always wondered what the quotation was and hence my question. It's only taken me over fifty years to enquire here on the AB. Your quote doesn't quite fit the circumstances but thank you in any case. Do you know what Mosaic meant by "Chavs"? regards, Vimto.

Vimto, I used a printed concordance (list of words in the Bible) but there were too many references to check them all. If you have time, you can use this online concordance - http:// www.eli yah.com /lexico n.html - looking up the key words.
