Apply For Patent/ Copyright

I have a jewelery design that is completely unique and has never been done before. Its not just the design its the concept. Its a concept of keeping part off someone with you at all times. The design I have a rough idea about. Can I protect my idea at all before I start discussing it with anyone?

Hi my idea is far different compared to these eternal keepsakes. All the do is retain a worthless mass of material that was associated with the person mine is far better :)

If its encapsulating someone's ashes, it's been done. Yes you can copyright an idea.

I hadn't seen chris's post and he's quite correct of course. Copyright only applies when there is a physical 'product'.
