My latest drawing - almost there, just want to check the sun/shadow tomorrow and perhaps a little more shading emphasis on the terrace. It's an old Victorian schoolhouse that a local oil services co has taken over and restored/converted into rather swish offices inside, suspended floors and all that. I wish that local/national government, of whatever persuasion, would adapt policies to help companies take on our old civic buildings and do what these folk have done in breathing use and life back into them. In town centres, it would help with regeneration.

This is a commission and then will be off to be cleaned and to the scanner.....I have done very little this year, the work on a web site having consumed the opportunities, that and the weather recently.

Hi DTC, they've just demolished a VERY similar building in my town, an old primary school my husband attended. Such a shame. You're drawings are FAB. Is it some sort of technical drawing? It looks like a LOT of work!
That's lovely, DT

Horseshoes, I use a needle pen (from Copic), well 3 of them at various stages of 'erosion' of the nib....they are what I would term architectural but more free-flowing. This one - about 12 hours on site.

Thanks as well to both you and boxie!
Excellent drawing DTC - I envy you being an ex-architectural draughtsman of many years

if i have not already said so before, you are a very talented artist, DTC

the detail in the sketch is extraordinary, congratulations
That looks brilliant, DT, you've really done that beautiful building justice
Absolutely beautiful DTc what a talent you have - congratulations.

Thanks, all of you, appreciated......fun to do!
Excellent. It reminds me of some really detailed wood-block illustrations that I have in a book printed in the 1880's.
That is beautiful DTCwordfan, you can see you are trained in technical drawing and what wonderful work you produce. Glad you share it, I love looking at art.

Thanks guys, never had a lesson in tech drawing! St Ives School of Art and my school, the only formal training..........
DTC is the perspective correct? Assuming the two extremities are the same, the different levels don't seem to meet at the same point/
Question Author
Yes it is, the building curves away.....the wing on the right is wider on its right than the left and, conversely, the same happens with the one on the left the other way around. I thought that I was going mad at first. The edge of the kerb is also curved, mainly down to the left, the apex in front of the main right window.

Bear in mind too, I didn't quite capture the photo square on (look at the top left corner!)
I thought it looked a wee bit "bent" but I assumed it was meant to be straight on. Not sure how you would make that obvious to the viewer but maybe it was just me...
It's good to see old buildings getting a second lease of life. The developers might have got some financial help from the Heritage Lottery Fund with their project.
You can imagine the generations of bored schoolchildren in it in the past and the go getters who'll be there soon.
The main thing is the folk it's being done for will know what like it is and they'll recognise the skills you have
Question Author
Thanks all...they got very little financial assistance actually - it's a local company doing very well and they are making a small fortune at the moment, following the Bank Holiday helicopter accident in the N.Sea - they manufacture specialist baskets for people and kit to go between the supply ships and the oil rigs and, understandably, have been somewhat stretched.

Yes, I have thought too about those past generations educated there. Far better this use than what was there before, a decaying building, part of it used as a Honda lawn mower centre. I feel quite strongly about such 'encouragement' of use of our civic buildings and there's far more that could be done to turn old houses and shops in town centres back into (quality - to the target market) residences and, in doing so, encourage more small shops, restaurants, bars etc, rather than seeing them decay, or chewing up more green countryside for new-builds.
Very well done DT, excellent drawing.
