Read the obituary in today's Times. She was someone I knew of but have been unable to actually READ anything she has written. Found her books very reader un-friendly. How about you?

I haven't done any serious reading for quite a while. I think I once struggled through a few chapters of one of her works. But I class her alongside another Nobel Laureate, Hermann Hesse, as unreadable.
I've got The Golden Notebook sitting here...I've yet to tackle it. The only Lessing I've read is Particularly Cats - her memoir of the many cats who've walked through her life. Totally unsentimental - yet presents cats as very much like we humans in many ways.
