Art in the attic

Due to overcrowding on our walls we have recently put a 2 year old, well wrapped, oil painting up in our attic.  A friend has suggested that this might be the worse idea we have ever had due to the extreme temperatures up there.  Does any one have any thoughts on this please?

Could you not slide the piece under a couch or bed? Much better indoors.
