Peter James Readers

Just read an excellent review of Peter James books in the mail on Sunday. Never read any but they look like my type of reading.
Can any James reader advise which book is best to start with as it was mentioned that a lot of them are about the same character DS Grace?

I have read all the Roy Grace series and most of them are excellent. Go on his website to check the order and start from the first one obviously. The order can be confusing, because they all have 'dead' in the title. Enjoy!

If you find that you like Peter James, then you'll most likely enjoy Graham Hurley whose novels are centered around Portsmouth whereas Peter James concentrates on Brighton.

Love Peter James' 'Dead' series which are the ones involving DS Grace. I would advise reading them in the correct order as although each book involves a different case there are follow through elements regarding his personal life....

I love Peter James books have read them all, just at the moment reading Dead mans time, which again is a page turner, each book is great!

As much as I love his books it is a total buggers muddle when stood in the Oxfam bookshop remembering that the last title you read had 'dead' in it.....

Brilliant books but read them in order or you won't get the background story.
Want You Dead is the latest, publishing date June 2014.

I'd recommend starting with Dead Simple, the first one. Each book deals with separate cases but there are a couple of storylines that run through every book..Enjoy, I love them!

If you like Peter James, then also check out Peter Robinson's inspector Banks series. Again, best read in order, and ignore the recent TV series, the books are much better! Stephen Tomkinson was so wrong as Banks. I see him more like Neil Pearson. But anyway, give them a go!

I groaned when I saw they had cast Stephen Tompkinson as Banks .I watched about 20 mins of the first one and turned off .He was so wooden and not at all like the Banks of my imagination .

I've got all Peter James's books. I've met him many times as he lives locally and is often seen around the town and surrounding areas. If you want to start with the "dead" series, the ones about Roy Grace, then start at the beginning. The first one was Dead Simple and was really gripping. That was the one that got me hooked.
I agree about Peter Robinson's Insp Banks books. They, too, are excellent. Yes, Stephen Tompkinson was totally wrong in the part as was Ken Stott as Rebus. I always saw Ken Stott more in the role of Insp Bobby Hogan.
I've just discovered Stephen Leather and am now a bit hooked on those books as well.
I've recently got through a John Grisham phase and read a whole load of his books. All of them very good, but, a bit "American" for my taste, spelling etc... Still excellent reading though.

As for Roy Grace.... Peter James himself would like to see Daniel Craig in the role. Doubt if that would ever happen though as Mr C is now such a huge film actor these days. Still, you never know eh?
