Not the genre you specifies, but I recommend Terry Pratchett.

Michael Coonnelly books are excellent, especially the Harry Bosch series, for a light hearted girly crime drama look for Janet Evanovich books, they start with One For The Money, then Two For The Dough, and so on, they're about a useless female bounty hunter who is lusted after by two studleys. Very good ;)

Agree with Atlanta about Patricia Cornwell, but only the earlier ones, the later books were a snoozefest IMO.

Harlen Coben is good, as is Linwood Barclay and Karin Slaughter.

Karen Rose writes great thrillers. I love lee child books, you don't have to read them in any particular order but the early ones are better than the most recent. Tess Gerritsen also writes fantastic thrillers, if a bit gory. Linwood barclays books are all good, as others have already said. Michael Connolly also good, but I prefer the Lincoln lawyer series as opposed to the Harry Bosch ones (although they are good too)

For a different kind of whodunnit, try The Tenderness of Wolves by Steph Penney... set in the Alaskan wilderness of the 1850's,the "detective" is a determined pioneer woman. If you like scary,there is The Ghost Hunters...based on actual events at what was once Britain's 'most haunted house'....Borley Rectory.

I've read Gone Girl and also Apple Tree Yard just recently, both in top 10 I think and both really good.

I'm with granny grump Stuart MacBride. You have to read them in order though or things don't quite fall into place but I certainly couldn't put them down and you are always kept on your toes and there is some humour in them too

With the likes of DI Insch and Steel yes very very much!!

The first one I read wasn't the Logan McRae series it was a standalone I tell you as much as that book was a wee bit gory and things it really made you think, I like a book that does that. I was hooked from there on...

Rocky...I have that on my kindle. Will read it eventually.
I really liked Gillian Flynn's other two books...maybe more than Gone Girl. They are Sharp Objects and Dark Places.

The Tess Gerritsen books are good aswell, couldn't put them down either.

until its over by Nicci French is a good one too, very cleverly written
