I have read this and thought it was OK but not that great.

Alittle anti-climatic perhaps

I haven't read it yet but have had that anti-climax with loads of books (Lord of the Flies, Sense and Sensibility, Rebecca). Think the hype that accompanies a book can sometimes be its downfall.

Have read way more books that have been hyped and I'd loved than those that have disappointed so don't mind too much.

Just out of interest, what stopped it being great?

I enjoyed it to the last page, and it was the perfect scenario for a film. It was easy to read but hard to put down, a very good story. Luckily I read it before the hype got too much. If you read the Quizzes and puzzles on AB then you'll enjoy this.
Yes, I'm afraid I found it underwhelming as well; not particularly well-written, not very cryptic and somewhat under-researched. I must admit I finished because I'd started it,and I don't like leaving a book unfinished even if it doesn't do a lot for me. There are a lot of inaccuracies/misconceptions about what is "European" or "British" - even an apparent unawareness that there is a difference between "England" and "Britain"......I can't speak for the accuracy of the Catholic Church references.
good story, bad writing.
anti-climatic?

bad story, bad writing.

Implausible, repetative, tedious, annoying, pointless, gaping plot holes, huge inaccuracies, a big fat waste of time.

I'd rather scoop my eyes out with hot spoons than read another Dan Brown book.

i'm nearing the end of the da vinci code and, like narolines, i'm only finishing it for the sake of it.

i've read all of dan browns other books and they are all very similar. i can see why they are so popular - because they are written in the style of a fast paced, plenty-of-action movie and very easy to read, but some of the cryptic stuff is very basic.

i think deception point is marginally the best of them and digital fortress was by far the worst - i worked out the twist after about 12 pages and carried on reading, thinking i'd missed something and surely the plot wasn't that simple, but i got about 5 pages from the end and realised i'd been right all along. i felt a bit let down and very nearly didn't bother with the last few pages!

generally, i found all of his books a bit of an anti-climax

I know he has a lot of fans but it's a complete load of old rubbish. After two chapters it failed to hold my attention and ended up in the charity shop.

I agree, i thought it was a great plot and everything, but i did think it slightly over the top to have all happened in a matter of a day and a half!!

dear trillipse what I meant was that ,you learn about MARY MAGDALENE about half way andf then it turns out that it is she who is the HG.in the end
Harry Potter books are not particularly well written but JK knows her audience and can weave imaginative plots. Same with Enid Blyton really - bad writer but good stories for kids. If you do not like Dan Brown books, then you're obviously entitled to your opinions. I think Angels and Demons is the best so far. Most good stories end up being made into films sic the new Da Vinci Code with Tom Hanks and Lord of the Rings (on which I'd be interested to hear your opinions). I do get slightly 'miffed' though when people criticise works of fiction for not being factual!
