As a punishment a man is condemned by the gods to roll a hogshead of porter up a steep hill. When he eventually reaches the top it rolls down the other side and he has to start all over again. So what at first seemed a minor thing turned into a life sentence.
Anyone know where this story can be found?

Tis. Walking over scree for hours would have the feet raw. That's why I said socks are permissible.
Don't some go up on their knees?
Question Author
They do when their feet give out. ;-)
Question Author
Seriously, you're right, some do. But it enough of a job getting to the top wearing good boots and carrying walking sticks.
Gerroutofit!
Ever tried Lough Derg, Sandy?

Psybbo, I saw a TV documentary on Lough Derg which put me off it. My real interest in pilgrimages across Northern Spain is in getting away from everything. Just walking across the countryside in the sun with my rucksack on my back and all my cares left back in Belfast.
‘Come away to a quiet place and rest a while’.

That sounds good, sibs.
Sandy, have you been to Montserrat and seen 'The Black Madonna'?

We went on a day trip from Barcelona. Lovely place.
Question Author
There is fasting and all-night vigils on Lough Derg. Not much opportunity for rest.
Don't let that fool you, Tilly, starvation diet {toast, dry and tea} and barefoot
Oh, rightho. Not going there then. My garden will do.
Question Author
I missed that, Tilly. I flew into Barcelona and just had time to get to the train station for my train to Pamplona. Maybe some day.
Montserrat is beautiful, sandy. A far cry from wet, windy, scree covered Irish mountains.
Pamplona?

I've always fancied doing the bull run - it's got to beat barrel hauling and scree trudging
the bulls look forward to it too. Have you selected one to be gored by?
Question Author
Sadly, The Running of the Nudes never really caught on. This was staged to give anti-bullfighting protesters a voice.
Warning! There are some bloody images in the link.

lord, they're all naked, apart from the fact that they're all wearing clothes. Averts eyes
Question Author
Well, we're all naked under our clothes. It was the photographs of dead bulls I was warning of rather than the bedaubed flesh.
for some reason it will only let me look at the first two photos. It's probably my personal net nanny looking down from heaven and poking her wand into my server.
