The Midwich Cuckoos

The film of this book ended with the schoolteacher setting off a suicide bomb which blew up the 'cuckoos'. But I recall a story in which the cuckoos set up a sort of parallel universe which was a fraction of a second advanced in real time but still in the vicinity of the village of Midwich, but which was invisible to the normal inhabitants (because it did not exist in their time); they could observe the outside world from it as to them it already did exist. Was this the original story as written or a completely differnt tale?

I believe the film was entitled VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED but it was a long time ago.
