I have always enjoyed Theroux's travel writing, from the mould-breaking
"The Great Railway Bazaar" onwards.

I am half-way through "Deep South: Four Seasons on Back Roads" and I am really enjoying this one. He rarely writes about his own country but in this one, he explores the modern Southern States, where there is still a lot more racism left than I thought.

Shocking at times but thoroughly recommended from me !

I hope you will like it Jenny !
I'm not mad on him; he's very snarky about people he meets. I picture him glaring at a glass of beer in a foreign town, scribbling down notes about what a nasty lot the locals are, then going on to the next town to do it again.

jno...here is a challenge !

Read "Deep South" and then come back with a critique, and I will promise that I will read it and respond to it.

Can't say fairer than that can I !
