I am looking for suggestions of songs or poems that have repeating lines. Examples are “There was an old woman who swallowed a fly” and “The 12 days of Christmas”.
It is for my mother who has alzheimers but has always loved poems, literature and music. Even though the dementia is at a very late stage she is still able to respond to poems if they are funny and rhyming. A recent one that she loves is “The Bloody Orkneys”.
She responds well to nursery rhymes because they are short, rhyming and often silly. All the better if they are older and she might remember them from years ago.
All suggestions will be gratefully received.

Yes jourdain - The old woman who swallowed a fly is her favourite!
She likes ones where I do all the reading/talking and then she can join in the last line of every verse because it is the same each time.
Thanks for your suggestions too hc4361.

I have found out that the types of rhymes that I am after are called 'cumulative' poems/tales so I have got another couple to try with mum tomorrow.
They are The House That Jack Built, I Got Me A Cat and Green Grass Grows All Around.
How about 'Must Be Santa' by Bob Dylan?
