I'm a senior in High School and I'm trying to come up with an idea on what to give to a professor of mine, who i'm really close with. She is my English teacher and has helped me through some rough times. She is very funny and kind and is really special to me.

So, as far as I know she likes:
-literature (I really want to get her a good book, she hasn't yet read but not a romantic novel. Some books she likes: Project Rosie by G. Simsion, Fahrenheit 451 by R. Bradbury, Brave New World by A. Huxley, The Perks Of Being A Wallflower by S. Chbosky, The Hand of Fatima, etc. I was also thinking on maybe getting a poetry book, so suggestions are welcome.)
-art (she does calligraphy, pottery, paints on silk; perhaps a coloring book for adults might me nice or is there anything else that she migh like? She has a looot of calligraphy nibs, but a really special one could be a cool gift. But i don't know where to get one. Or a glass pen, maybe?)

I would really appreciate your suggestions on something connected to literature and arts and perhaps a little knick-knack that might be a nice/funny gift. Thank you.

Having been a teacher, the presents I appreciated the most were the ones where the student had made a personal connection, like a letter. A letter saying how she had made an impact on your life, - give actual examples if you can remember them. This will have far more value than anything bought, but Andy's idea is good too. Keep it simple but heartfelt.

I would buy her a classic book - something like To Kill A Mockingbird, or Catcher In The Rye, and write a nice message on the inside blank page, and sign and date it. That will make a nice memory of you for her.

Please don't over do the gifts....she may feel embarrassed and you don't want that. I was a teacher too and would suggest a really lovely arty card with your thanks expressed in your own words inside. That would probably be enough...but if you must something like a glass paper weight which will be beautiful and useful.... and less likely to break if dropped!!
I was in a supermarket and the lady in front of me was paying for a pot plant. She said it was for her son's teacher and she was going to put a label on it saying 'Thank you for helping me grow' . I thought that was a lovely sentiment
I love that idea roopower!
A handmade bookmark with a personalised message, that way she can always have it close.

You can get beautifully bound blank note-books. She could use this as a diary or as what the Victorians used to call a "Commonplace Book" in which people would copy quotations or sayings. Or even as an address book. They come in all sizes and prices. Well, they do in the UK.
