Emojis must surely be a passing fad, as they are a useless substitute for real language.

So why do so many otherwise intelligent people not call this spade a spade? Are they scared of not being trendy?

Emojis are extremely useful for portraying the intent behind the written word on forums and in short messages - there has been many a spat on here when the reader didn't realise the writer was joking, being ironic or sarcastic.

It's the sort of idiocy that tries to translate (for example) Shall I compare thee to a summer's day? into 'emoji' that exasperates me.
