John Lennon Biography

John Lennon would have been 65 this year and it's 25 years since he was killed. I thought I'd read a biography on him but their seems to be HUNDREDS of them. They all claim to be the definitive and the best......Anyone recommend a genuinely good one...Thanks.

Like all people Lennon was different things to different people. I think you should go for people who knew him with no particular axe to grind.

First wife Cynthia has a new book out, I haven't read it, but she could give a good account from his Art school years until the Maharishi era.

I like a lot of Beatle fans am anti Ono I think she is self promoting, if you read this months Q, which was done with Ono's help its all post Beatles.

If you can find it there is a book by a guy called Pete Shoton, who was John's best mate and its without doubt the warmest book about him

Stevee....Thanks for that. I also read the Q special this month, and for the reasons you give is the reason I want to know more.

I was born in 1971 so am interested about the break-up of the Beatles and I really want to make my own mind up on Ono.

I think the best is the two part biography by Ray Coleman - John Winston Lennon and John Ono Lennon which I have found to be detailed and objective.

Anyone connected with Lennon and / or The Beatles has a personal slant, but Coleman does eem to have distanced himself enough to see his subject's flawed genius, and analyse it sucinctly.
