This looks like someone moving a camera when they take a picture. Is this the effect you want?

this is a painting in acrylics on canvas. they have managed to blur, but have retained some form. Is the background 'wet' when the clouds are applied? Help!
You can paint "wet in wet" with acrylics if you use retarding gel and work quickly. If you use too much retarder it will affect the stability of the paint, so only use the recommended amount.
Best to colourwash the canvas in diluted white first, then use a 2" brush to blend in the sky colour. You can then "remove" the sky colour with a tissue leaving the white underneath as clouds. Then feather the whole lot with a dry 4" brush. (Works for me - but you do have to work very quickly) Hope it helps www.kingart.co.uk
lou, the background is dry. You can do this as it's acrylics. Like has been mentioned, the clouds are 'feathered' in
