Mrs Grundy and Mary Whitehouse, what a team they'd have made.
I can understand the artist's disappointment, presumably no nudes will be included in the exhibition at all then?

They are rather good too.
I cannot access the link but surely there are other places to exhibit these pictures rather than choose one which is going to upset the regular users of the building.
Nudes in cathedrals?

Disgusting!

They should have some nice wholesome paintings, such as Michelangelo painted in the Sistine Chapel:

Unfortunately the Sistine Chapel was already fully booked.

I assume that you're using that-which-shall-not-be-named-here. If so, go to the link and then click on the red 'ABP' box at the top right of your screen. Click on 'Enabled on this website' to change it to 'Disabled'. Press F5 to refresh your screen.
Didn't realise Amy was that prudish.
perhaps cathedrals shouldn't hire themselves out as art galleries. The painting shown in the link looks pretty inoffensive and unexceptionable, but I suppose she'd be none the worse for a burqa.
Forgot about that, Chico.

She could be - nudes don't appear to be in her line.

Can't see them. Mind you, bums etc don't shock me. Can't understand the prudes.
people are confusing Whitehouse and Winehouse here, I'm afraid.
You could have stopped at 'people are confusing' Jno ;-)
so true, so true

/// people are confusing Whitehouse and Winehouse here, I'm afraid.///

Not at all. I'm sure OG was tongue-in-cheek, and my reply pandered to that in what I thought was an amusing aside.
People go to cathedrals to worship God and people go to galleries to look at art. I don't think it's the pictures that are the problem, but the siting of them.
After all, you can choose whether to go to an art exhibition or not, but those people who were attending a religious service were not given that choice.
In my opinion it's got absolutely nothing to do with the values of Mary Whitehouse, but everything to do with people's perception of what is appropriate in a place of worship.
I have visited many cathedrals and the only art I have seen is religious art. This art was secular.

:-D
>>> This art was secular

But probably everything else in the exhibition was too. Many cathedrals host art exhibitions. (Ely Cathedral often does). I can't recall ever seeing a single 'religious' painting in any of them; they're all 'secular'. So what makes the exhibition of nudes any different?
