Lost Book Title
2 Answers
I am trying to trace a book which I read about 40 Years ago, here is a brief synopsis,
The title of the book has SS or 55 in the title,
A village on the East coast of Britain,A submarine lands a squad of German soldiers with a large case.
Unknown to the soldiers the case contains a highly radioactive substance which contaminates the soldiers and everyone in the village and they all die.
British soldiers are deployed and the material is buried and the village is flatten and is made a no go area with the landlord of the local pub overseeing the site.
A couple of reporters (male & female) drive by on holiday and are consulting a very old map which shows the village and on newer maps it shows nothing, the area is now surrounded by a high fence with barbed wire so they enquire at the local pub,the landlord tell them it is an area which is out of bounds and the MOD patrol the area.
They return at night break into the area and find a couple of articles which they take away,
They consult a scientist friend who confirms the articles are radioactive.
That is about as my memory goes,I would love to find the title so I can read it again
Many Thanks
