Hieronymus Bosch ?

Am I Right ?
I'm Not Wrong !
another that i don't care for ^^
What does it mean? What does it mean? What does it mean?
she demands, - it means whatever you want it to mean.
I think thats part of the problem Naomi (arty gobbledegook). It generally serves no purpose to those, like me, who tend to be very black and white logical thinkers (why I am a good programmer). I do need to understand what was or is behind something but in simple clear terms so that I can form my own appreciation of a work, that no doubt would be totally different to someone else's. But what does that matter if you enjoy it.

One of my son in laws does abstract on the side(sells them), he explains them to me then I see it (usually!).
Khandro, since when did a reasonable question become a demand? I can only conclude that you don't know what it means either.

YMB, I often find the art world speaking in fluent airy-fairy.
I know what it means but you're not in the special club so can't know.

There, that makes me better than y'all. Now where did I put my cravat?
An open question to all who find art such a 'mystery':

What effort have you made to enlighten yourselves?

What books, lectures, films have you engaged with?
Khandro, //What effort have you made to enlighten yourselves? //

I've just asked a highly successful professional artist - you - to explain a statement. Was your response enlightening? I don't think so.
Naomi at 08.30 - I have been accused of many things on here, but 'artistic gobbledygook' is a first!

My explanation is the one offered by Snr Dali himself to explain his frequent 'soft' images.
Professional artist: "You should enlighten yourselves."

Eager Listener: "Can you explain it to me then please?"

PA: "No you stupid pleb why should I waste my time with people who don't try to learn stuff."

EL: "That's what I was trying to do by asking you though ..."
Continued- He reckoned that our reliance on the 'solidity' of things we believed in was an illusion, hence his portrayals of it.

If you think that is nonsense, blame Dali - it's his explanation for his art, I merely passed it on.
AH, // I have been accused of many things on here, but 'artistic gobbledygook' is a first! //

I wasn't talking about you. I was responding to YMB.
naomi - // AH, // I have been accused of many things on here, but 'artistic gobbledygook' is a first! //

Then you should make that clear, to avoid confusion.

People criticise me for C & P'ing in my responses, but there is never any confusion about which post I am addressing.
So there, missy.
I always find it fascinating when a piece of art just captures you, I have lost so much time caught in an image or a sculpture. Most recently a piece in Birmingham art gallery. At first glance a room setting until you saw the patterns in the colours, and placements, that some components were slightly disproportionate but somehow there was a strange rightness to it.
However going round a gallery with an old friend with a masters in the subject is also a very strange experience. When one of you is responding on a visceral level and the other on an academic one you can have some extremely complex discussions that add to the appreciation on both sides.

As someone who writes professionally about an art form, in my case music, I am always keen to remember that the vast majority of people who enjoy any art of any sort, do so on an instinctive level for the majority of the time, and that's absolutely how it should be.

Analysis by people like me is fine for those who are interested in such things, but the vast majority either like, or don't like, music that they hear.

That goes for paintings and sculptures - something I know absolutely nothing whatsoever about, so I enjoy, or not, on the same level as almost everyone else.

If the 'rightness' reaches you, then you can enjoy the art, no-one needs a better reason than that.
AH, //Then you should make that clear, to avoid confusion. //

I addressed my post directly to YMB. I doubt anyone other than you finds that confusing.
i find this whole thread very puzzling. Who could it be? well me for one (i cant say i don't like all of dali's works because i havent seen them all, but i can say i don't rate any that i've seen.
I can't understand the kerfuffle about whether you have to have some understanding or meaning to like or dislike art (i still can't work out whether khando, naomi and andy are each saying you do or you dont!)
naomi - // AH, //Then you should make that clear, to avoid confusion. //

No, you didn't - you indicated that your response was to the post above, and by the time it hit the page, my post was there, and your post was pointing to it.

It's clear that your post indicated that it was a response to mine, since you didn't advise which post you were referring to.

That's why there was confusion - it's there for you to go and have a look at.

I am not confused, you caused confusion by replying to one post, while appearing to be replying to a different post.

I doubt anyone other than you cannot see that if they care to look.
