How easy is it to get started making some basic stuff, cost, etc and does anyone have any useful links for a complete beginner, thanks

Depends what size you want to start off with really, altho I would suggest a small one.

Any good craft/hobby shop will sell kits and the individual items on how to make stained glass, but I would suggest you start with a kit, as although it's quite easy, it will teach you the techniques.

There are two basic styles the so called "copper foil" technique (think tiffany lampshades) and leaded lights ( think panels in doors, church windows etc.) I did a day course with leaded lights a few years back, it's pretty easy.

I bought some stuff a few months back from Hetleys who were in the East end of London but have just been bought by Pearsons and have moved to Greenford. Looks like they're still sorting out since then but Hetleys used to do starters kits for about �100 - I can't see much detail in the new website but like I say it sounds as if they're still getting sorted.

Don't know where you are situated, but I recommend Fred Aldous of Manchester - very helpful staff, big well-stocked shop and excellent mail-order. Prices are also as good as you'll get in the UK. www.fredaldous.co.uk - there's an online catalogue.
