I am part way through writing a book and have no idea on where to start when it comes to publishers. Is there a list of decent publishers (on a website or something) who i can send the finished article to?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

'The Writer's Handbook' and 'The Writer's and Artist's Yearbook' are two annual publications which contain all the information you could conceivably want about publishers and their requirements, agents etc.
It's rare for publishers to accept unsolicitated manuscripts these days and you will probably require an agent to help you. They will view your synopsis and first few paragraphs before deciding if they will accept you as a client.
The Writer's Handbook (Macmillan), edited by Barry Turner and updated annually should prove helpful.
You will need to find out just how detailed a synopsis is required by an agent as well. Some like one page of synopsis for every twenty five pages of novel, so it can become a detailed piece of work in its own right.
Novel Writing by Evan Marshall (A & C Black) 12.99 is quite a good read on the requirements of agents and publishers.
Good luck and keep writing. :-)
