I've just been watching a documentary about Vermeer's painting. I spent about three months painting a copy (an exercise in learning how to shove paint around) and I found the programme very interesting.
Any ABers like the work (the original; not mine)?

Thanks, Buen. I wonder if Vermeer gave his painting a name at all. I suspect he did it for cash for an old lech (or should I say connoisseur?) like me.

Jno - you can console yourself by the fact that it seems to be completely sold out. We had hoped to go with our friends - who have membership of the Rijksmueum - but even they can’t get tickets now (they did manage to go previously and sent us the exhibition book).

How embarrassing! I definitely posted two different pics of the original!!
I'm rummaging through my pic files trying to find a decent photo of the copy. I'll post it as soon as I can (It's still a pretty good copy all the same)

I think some might think the left eye is squint as the other eye is partially hidden due to the angle of the head.

Yes, I like the work. I was also going to ask how you got the cracks. Yours looks warmer and more 'vital' than the original. Maybe the original faded.

I believe the original had a dark green background, but the colour changed over time.

Yes, and there's some doubt as to whether the earing is actually pearl due the the clarity of the reflection.
