I dont know much about ballet, but I heard the other day that only women can do the 'point to point' where they stand up on tip toe and flutter across the stage in that lovely way. Apparently men cant do this, why are we not capable of same?

I would guess it's the same reason that women cannot easily bowl a cricket ball overarm - it's down to the width of the hips.

Women balance differently because their centre of gravity is different, and their hips are wider, this is only a guess in terms of the 'point; question - QM will be here shortly with the difinitive response, because if anyone knows ...

Because they are such graceful creatures ;-))
Ballerinas move 'on pointe', from the French; 'point to point' is a form of countrified horse-racing. Although I am a balletomane, I have no more to offer than Andy has...namely that it must be a matter of bodily construction. Presumably, it has a lot to do with actual body-weight.
(Thanks for the confidence, A, but - as usually happens - I know no more than you do!)

Apologies for my lack of precision, the image of a ballerina riding hell for leather at a dodgy race meet is not something thats easily conjured up.
