Children's fantasy novel..

I can't remember much, only that the cover had a rowing boat on the front and that it had your basic going to another world plot. I think the main character discovered her father was from this other world and she had to waken him. Also, the city where the book began had fountains in every square. Not much to go on, but anyone? Thanks!
