Romeo and Juliet. Love or Hate?
5 Answers
Which would you say triumohs in the end, love or hate? Personally im not sure. I think i think hate but its a very tight call. I think hate simply because they have to die, but they also die out of love for another. All opinions greatly received! xx

I don't believe either love or hatred triumphs, on an individual basis for Tybalt (is that right?) hatred triumphs as Romeo dies, for Romeo it is love as Juliet commits suicide in order to be with him. Perhaps tolerance is the overall winner as the so called adults realise how much their stupidity has cost them.
I don't think any Shakespere play comes down to simply love and hate, and that is their enduring appeal. Romo and Juliet explores the notion of love against a backdrop of family loyalty and political intrigue - themes which are eternal. Really, no-one wins, which again is a metaphor for life - nothing is ever really that simple.
