Working the kind of hours nurses do, I have become more than familiar over the past 25 years,with Radio 4's them tune played at 5.30am each morning.

I now hear they're going to scrap it. Surely not!! Please, someone tell me i've been misinformed !

The theme tune is as old fashioned as Radio 4 itself. All the programmes are in need of a makeover. How about Ant and Dec as roving reporters on Today. Trendsetter Coleen Mclouglin hired to present Womens Hour, her knowledge on issues concerning women would be invaluable. The World at One should lighten up with some Richard and Judy style of interviewing. The Archers should be switched to an inner city location, reflecting the mood of modern Britain. Book at Bedtime should be scrapped and replaced with news from the soaps, or some other showbiz type gossip programme. These changes may not go down well but they would prevent todays generation from becoming senile old bores like Radio 4s present day audience.

The R4 Theme is a disgusting Elititist farrago of so-called 'Tunes' which confusingly contain more than two notes and are derived from a Cultural Tradition which is over two weeks old. The sooner it is replaced by the proposed (C)Rap Artist version the better! What is more, it was arranged by an old Asylum Seeker/Immigrant...(oops, hang on,,, bit tricky, this PC stuff, innit?)
