unknown poem from school

When I was at school we read a poem possibly by Philip Larkin about a newborn child and how he wished her to be ordinary and average because to be extra special or beautiful would make her life more difficult. Does anyone know if it was written by Larkin and if so what it was called?

It is indeed Larkin. It's called Born Yesterday (for Sally Amis).
