I am looking for a name of the book by James Aldridge about father and son, where the father gets attacked by a shark and his son saves him by flying him back in a plane.

Does it ring a bell?

The only reference I can find is a film called Posledniy Dyuym, based on the story, hope I've spelt it right! put it into Google and the film info should come up.
Question Author

I know. I have seen the movie (which was great) and that is why I wanted to find the book. But there is very limited info on the author on the net. I have his bibliography but no book descriptions so am stuck.

Posledniy dyum means last inch, the closest book to that name is The Last Exile, but again no description.

Found the following on the net, just so that you know that it's not the book you're looking for! - The Last Exile, a formidable book in length (790 pages), is of the genre that blends fiction with history. In this case it is the predicament of an Englishman working for the Egyptian Government at the time of the Suez crisis. Captain Scott, court-martialled while in the Eighth Army for disobeying a disastrous order and his career ruined, has settled in Egypt where he enjoys the friendship of Nasser whose life he once saved. The plot follows the mounting tension of his conflicting loyalties as the Anglo-French invasion draws nearer and his love affairs.
Question Author

Yup, seen that, now the tricky bit is the storyline is based in Egypt (I think).

The author did write a short story called The Shark Net, published in Lilliput journal in 1959 (but if the film was released in 1958 the chronology is a bit out) but it's possible it might be that judging from the title, but can't find a lot of info on it either:

There are usually lots of Lilliput mags on ebay, so just a case of waiting for the right month/year - but no guarantees that this is in fact the story you are looking for!

Sorry, should have been Shark Cage, not Net!
