A lot of people really enjoyed the novel, and are eagerly looking forward to the film, so no sadness involved, as far as I can see.

Personally, I found the novel unreadable, and I don't like Tom Hanks, so I'll be giving the film a miss.

I have been waiting for it with great impatience (much to my fiancee's annoyance!!) however, when i found out the released date, i was a bit miffed as we are going on holiday on the 9th of may for 2 weeks and will not be back in time for the release!!! D'oh! I guess i will just have to wait a few extra days!

I really enjoyed the book, but was dissapointed when I found out it would be Tom Hanks playing Robert Langford (not that I'm dissing Tom in any way), he's just soooo not what I had imagined him to be like when I read the book. But I'll still go and see it all the same.

I thought the book was very clumsily written, more in keeoing with a childs writing, However, it was a good story, and I will probably see it at some point.

Rhona! I so agree with you. I loved the book and I love Tom Hanks,but i never pictured Robert Langdon in that way, he was more.. handsom I suppose, The weird thing is I manage a book shop and when the book came out I refused to read it cause I thought it sounded awful (I'm a Terry Pratchett fan first and foremost) In the interest of business I read it and the other 3 novels Dan Brown had written and am now completely smitten. Sadness knows no bounds compaired to mine! Roll on may.

I read it way before the hype and fuss was made about it and while I agree that some of the actual writting was a bit shoddy, the whole story and was great. I then went on to read Angels and Demons, which I thought was actually better that the Da Vinci Code, and subsequently led to me to book a short break in Rome. Now I think that would make a good film! aggiela have you seen the pictures of Dan Brown, I think thats kinda what I had in my mind about Robert Langford, though as you say tad more handsome!

rhona,i too booked a weekend away in Rome after reading DVC. and also Angels and deamons. Gorgeous, wonderful, city.Me and my bf.were totally in awe of the basilicas and sites hope you had a wonderful time there and remembered to throw your coin in the Trevi? Just finished deception point,it was ok bit too political.Am ithe only one who thinks Tom Hanks would be fab for the role of langdon then?

Ignore all the media hype (which I think has been blown out of all proportion!) and enjoy it for what it is, a great adventure story!

I am looking forward to seeing the movie too. I thoroughly enjoyed the book, read it before all the negative hype, and loved it as a damn good read. Why do the critics have to over-analyse? It's a work of fiction! I don't have a prob with Tom Hanks as Robert Langford, he picks and chooses his movies roles and always does a brilliant job. Hope you enjoy it Scruffscat. x
