Hi The Tree - The best series I have read (still reading!!) is the 'World's End' series by Upton Sinclair. This is an eleven book set chronicling the life of its hero, Lanny Budd throughout the first half of the 20thC, from just pre WW! up to the late 1940's. U.Sinclair is a master of character detail and uses real situations and people. Anybody studying or interested in this period of (mainly European) history should read these. He breathes life into the bleak origins of WW1, the 20's depression, Spanish Civil War and WW2. As each book is approximately 600+ pages, my lifes ambition is to complete reading all eleven books before being called to the great e-bay in the sky!!
i am reading a book by tony hawkes where he hicthhikes around ireland with a fridge very funny book!
to follow up on tony hawkes, havnt read the one with the fridge yet but i recommend playing the moldovans at tennis, where he has to travel to moldovia and persuade the national football team to play him at tennis.
a short history of nearly everything by bryson. dont be put off by its size and the threat of science. its a brilliant read.
