Starlight Express

Went to see Starlight Express in Dublin last night. I enjoyed it but loads of people around us didn't come back for second half, so they obviously thought it was rubbish. What do ABers think?

In a Pickle, thanks. My mum was telling me that they have a track in london. Whereas in Dublin, we were all handed special 3d glasses and a film screen came on showing the race. The stage was TINY as well so they didn't really get to show off many skating moves.

It sounds as if you had a bit of a raw deal Cosmok. The London version with the track through the audience was one of the most exciting musicals I have seen. The skaters were passing about 5 feet in front of us at great speeds - absolutely fantastic.

Saw it in London couple of years ago. Kids with us loved it but I was bored stiff

The current tour is a new production called Starlight Express: The Third Dimension, with the 3D specs etc. I think they had to do this to keep up with the times, as just traiditional rollerskating may seem a little passe these days. I saw it last year and thoroughly enjoyed it. All together now, 'There's a Light at the End of the Tunnel...'

We're getting this production at Christmas. Apparently it's nigh on impossible to tour the 'railway track' as most provincial theatres just can't accomodate it - in fact, many aren't purpose-built theatres at all. Ours is a concert hall, really, although we've had some 'big' productions there in recent years. From what I'm told, the actual roller skating is confined to a small area of the stage.
