Has anyone read any of her books, and what did they think? She's been hyped and has won prizes, and I quite fancy them, but they're so long, and I don't want to do my usual trick of shelling out for a book and reading the first few pages. Many thanks in advance of replies.

Last time I looked, the books in question were very grubby and I don't like 'dirty' books, if you know what I mean!
violetblue - you are really missing out by not using your library.

All those free books to sample and dip in to - books you may not ever consider buying, but find you love them.

Haven't seen a grubby book at my library for many, many years.

Ethel, i do use the library, often, but the particular books in question were covered with some crusty stuff, need I go on?...
I'm not sure I would describe the books as grubby although I would say that her descriptions can be quite graphic. I think she's a good writer and I enjoyed White Teeth very much.

Thanks China Doll, I found the size of the books quite daunting, but I'll give White Teeth a go.
Bear with it in the middle, it loses it's way slightly for a couple of chapters but it's back on track pretty quickly. Hope you enjoy it.
I read White Teeth, great, funny book... a little long and towards the end, it kind of trails off, as if she got bored of writing... But it still was a good read.
