I've just read my fathers war diary, and would like to have it made into a proper book, not for general issue, just for myself, does anyone on here know where I might get this done please?, Thanks.

what a lovely idea Lonnie!
Publishing - any vanity publisher will knock off 200 or 500 copies

Your family should sop up ten and that only leaves 490 to get rid of. Dont forget museums - IWM is a must....

What I did with my Dad's is scan with high quality his diary and then put it on a disc.
This is VERY cheap - and dont forget the museums......

Good luck PP
there are over 50 Family history societies in the UK and they would be so pleased to read such a publication

Thanks everyone for your help, all your answers have been noted.

We, (the family), have only just found it, I suppose he hid it because it was illegal at the time, to keep one. its facinating, but I thought if I could get it printed in book form, but kept the way he logged everything, I could present one to each branch of the family.

Many thanks again.
It doesn't have to cost hundreds of pounds, and you don't have to buy dozens of copies to store in your garage. Both Lulu and PABD will do this for you for little more than the cost of the book, give or take a nominal setup fee:

I wouldn't normally recommend Lulu, because they're American and don't have much of an idea about publishing for the British market, but since you're not intending to sell the book, then there's no reason why you shouldn't use them. Their finished products are pretty good, by all accounts.

You may be interested in Bob Trubshaw's 'How to Write & Publish Local & Family History' (ISBN 1872883591). It is an extremely informative and comprehensive book that deals with everything from initial research right through to marketing the finished project, and includes a few basics about copyright, photographs and typesetting as well.
