ive just read "aftermath" by peter robinson which was very good .i think lots of his novels include the same charactor ie chief inspecter banks and are set in yorkshire.
I can reccommend the "Resnick" novels by John Harvey as they would certianly be in a similar vein (well written, good plots, slightly scruffy and flawed policeman). As an American alternative there are the excellent Harry Bosch novels by Michael Connelly.
Michael Connelly's book's with Harry Bosch and Terry McCaleb are brilliant. Good one's are Blood Work, Trunk Music and The Poet. Also, look for a guy called Lee Child. He has written a load of novels with a main character called Jack Reacher. Reacher is the coolest guy ever, ex military policeman and always manages to wind up in something without planning too. Without Fail is a recent one by Child and is brilliant.
Just remembered another one - Alex Kava. She's done a couple with an agent called Maggie O'Dell. I've only read one called Split Second, but it was brilliant and I'm definately getting more.
Mo Hayder has written a couple of books based in the UK, Birdman and The Treatment. They touch on some fairly taboo subjects, but if you like a good read, then they are fantastic. Val McDermid and Reginald Hill also base their stories in the UK, but if you want to broaden your horizons a bit, then look out for Alex Kava (three novels now and all gripping yarns), James Patterson (character Alex Cross), Kathy Reichs (character Temperance Brennan) and Patricia Cornwell (main characters Kay Scarpetta and Pete Marino) to name but a few. And of course, there is the queen of crime, Agatha Christie! Good Luck!
magozzi and rolseth n#crime novels by pj tracy she has only written two novels so far with her mum.
