copywriter cont...
6 Answers
Sorry, I can't seem to post an answer to follow on... An advertising agency have asked me to write in to arrange a meeting with them to discuss a possible job opportunity as a copywriter. Problem is this contact was only made as a close photographer friend of mine had shot a Gillette advert for them and told them about me and my personality as well as my background in Fine Art. He said I was completely wasted at my job as accounts admministrator and that i would be a valuable assetas a copywriter to their company... he also said that i didn't have a clue about advertising and didn't know he was even telling them about me, which is true. Prob is, now they've asked me to write in and arrange a meeting with them and i have no idea what to write! I totally feel stupid as i don't have anything to back me up and its only through my personality and personal creativeness from someone's point of view, that has sold me! He said just be myself. Should i send them something like this, obviously without the pic? Forgive the seedy website, my account runs out on 1st so i don't mind sharing for now! http://sugardaddie.com/profilepage.php?profile username=Jet-girl Thanks!

You need to be well up on the advertising world; well versed in what copy sells and what doesn't; faultless when it comes to grammar and punctuation; allergic to clich; and bl00dy creative - with a good portfolio to prove all that! I guess they might appoint a junior on a low salary to learn 'onsite' but would they really invest in that? Couldn't see the link incidentally.
So difficult to conclude one way or another without knowing you - your friend must be able to see something there! If you apply you will certainly be asked to come up with a creative (with copy) for a sample product as a test. If you reckon you can hack it (and do a few yourself before you apply!), don't let my answer put you off.
Funny, I was really put off by your answer... but as you say, my friend has been a professional photograpgher for 30 years (20yrs older than me) and keeps going on about it, obviously knowing that i haven't got any experience.
If you'd seriously like to have a basic insight of me, I don't mind giving you my password, if you send me your email address, or i can put my work's one on here... of course, you'd have access to all my emails, but i don't mind as you've had experience in this field and I think you're the best person to answer!
