One of Kennedy's favorite stories was about an Irishman who stood before a tall wall thinking how difficult it would be to climb over. The man then threw his hat over the wall so that there would be no question that he had to try. Do you have any good story to share?

In Russia you don't have to be bright to join the Military and there are many stories that make jokes of this. This is supposed to have occured when some Russian soldiers were on a visit to an American army camp.
At lunch the table was laid and the drinking mugs were upside down. Soldier Ivanov complains to Sergeant Petrov that he can't drink because his mug has no opening. The sergeant inspects the mug and declares " stupid Americans !! You are right Ivanov; and what's more, the mug has no bottom.
My tutor always illustrated everything with amusing stories. She was always telling us to read everything thoroughly before making judgement or taking action. She showed us this poem she had received.
Loves Promise
I shall seek and find you
I shall take you to the bed and control you
I shall make you ache, shake, sweat until you grunt and groan
I shall make you beg for mercy
I shall exhaust you to the point where you will be relieved when I leave you
And you will be weak for days
All my love,
Influenza
I want to go to McDonald's and think it's the best place in the world to eat. I want to sail sticks across a fresh mud puddle and make waves with rocks.I long for the days when life was simple. When all you knew were your colors, the addition tables, and simple nursery rhymes, but it didn't bother you because you didn't know what you didn't know, and you didn't care. I want to be happy because I don't know what should make me upset. I want to think the world is fair, and everyone in it is honest and good. I want to believe that anything is possible.

I learned too much.I learned of nuclear weapons, starving and abused kids, and unhappy marriages. I want to think that everyone, including myself, will live forever because I don't know the concept of death. I want tv to be something I watch for fun, not something I use for escape from the things I should be doing. I want to live knowing the little things I find exciting, will always make me as happy as when I first learned them. I remember not seeing the world as a whole, but rather being aware of only the things that directly concerned me.I want to be naive enough to think that if I'm happy, so is everyone else. I want to walk down the beach and think only of the sand beneath my feet, and the possibility of finding that blue piece of sea glass I'm looking for. I want to spend my afternoons climbing trees and riding my bike, letting the grownups worry about time, the dentist, and how to find the money to fix the car. I want to wonder what I'll do when I grow up, not worry what I'll do if this doesn't work out. I want that time back. I want to use it now as an escape, so that when my PC crashes, or I have a mountain of paperwork, or two depressed friends, or second thoughts about so many things, I can travel back and build snowmen without thinking about anything except whether the snow sticks together and what I can possibly use for the snowman's mouth. - Author unknown

A competition run in Russia was offering TV sets or newspaper subscriptions as prizes. All the winners chose newspapers because you can't wrap herrings in a TV set.
What nationality were Adam & Eve ? Russian of course. Why else would we be told they lived in Paradise when they were homeless, naked and had only an apple to eat !!
That's it from me before I get accused of site hogging.
Similar to xyzzy@bok's, except that the author is not unknown - his name is Robert Fulghum. Entitled "Everything I need to know I learned at kindergarten," it's a bit long to quote here, but it ends,
"Think what a better world it would be if we all - the whole world - had cookies and milk about three o'clock every afternoon and then lay down with our blankies for a nap.
Or if all the governments had as a basic policy to always put things back where they found them and to clean up their own mess.
And it is still true, no matter how old you are... when you go out into the world, it is best to hold hands and stick together". The full version can be found at http://www.skundberg.no/oystein/tekster/fulghum.ht
