i don't think there is one - you can wear what you like (within reason!).
I'm really glad you asked that because I'm flying to London next weekend on a date and I think he's going to take me to the theatre or opera if there is one! I can't imagine being able to wear jeans... having said that. you appear to be a guy, so any trousers would be expected. X
you'll be able to wear jeans, don't worry - these places aren't as snobby as you think. The Lyceum has Lion King showing now, i think - so there won't be any dress code at all. The only place people really dress up may be to opera..? But even then I don't know if it's a strict dress code, people just like to dress up. I've never dressed up when going to anything at thetares in London.
I agree with cidermonkey, there's no need to dress up for the theatre but if you wanted to I'm sure nobody would think anything!
You can wear anything you like to the theatre and even to a lesser extent the opera, but try to think how the person you are going with is likely to be dressed and mirror that if you can as it'll make for a more confortable night than if you turn up in jeans and a torn t shirt and he's dressed up to the nines. my wife always wears a nice dress and I wear a suit if we do the opera or the theatre but it's always stuff we can club in afterwards.
suits for men and similar formalish wear for women is the norm at the opera, though I don't think you thrown out for wearing jeans. At the theatre, anything that's not beachwear will do, but why wear ripped jeans for an evening out? Smart casual is usual.
Basically, as most have said, wear what you like - jeans, cords, combats - whatever you'll feel most comfortable in. Remember, you'll be having to sit for the best part of a couple of hours, and you'll be in semi-darkness most of the time, so nobody's going to see you much.
whenever we've been to various things in london you get all manner of people wearing all manner of clothes.
there are those with jeans and t-shirt and then those with evening gowns and dj's
i tend to go for smart casual myself.
there really is no dress code anymore, not even for the opera.
