Hi all, I'd like to know more about maieutics but don't really feel up to doing the whole Greek thing. Does it differ much from techniques that a shrink might use?

Examples would be great.

Thanks in advance!

\Ma*ieu"tics\, n. The art of giving birth (i. e., clearness and conviction) to ideas, which are conceived as struggling for birth. --Payne.
Maieutics is a method of teaching introduced by Socrates. It is one of the four parts of socratic method. It is based on the idea that the truth is latent in the mind of every human being due to his innate reason but has to be "given birth" by questions asked by the teacher and answers given by the student.

The word is derived from the Greek "maieutikos", pertaining to midwifery
