She picked it up at midnight and read it for about 2 hours before going to bed. I've just taken her some lunch, in bed, she hasn't even bothered to get up yet, and I don't think she has any intention of getting up till its finished. At the speed she reads at I would expect that to be some time around 6 ish. Oh, and so far no-ones dead yet.
It's way too long, the plotting is kind of clunky and I don't think JK Rowling can handle emotional scenes very well - the whole death of Sirius thing just doesn't ring true.
I think she got it absolutely right with 'The Prisoner of Azkaban', but it seems that the fourth and fifth have been exercises in self-indulgence. Are the editors scared of telling her to make cuts??
Read it over the weekend. Very good. Especially liked the twins 'wizardly wheezes'.Completely agree that the death of Sirius was a little on the badly written side. Erm, I think the books are fun, if I hadn't read them up to now I don't think I would bother, but because I have been hooked on them since 1999, I am going to have to finish the series (assuming that JKR does!)

Have just finished it now after 6 days. I did like it, but the 3rd book is still my favourite as she ties in so many sub plots that were there all along in the 1st and 2nd book. I have to admit that I did think that Hagrid was gonna snuff it, but guessed it would be Sirius before the battles really started - it was a shame he died, but I agree I think it could have been written better.
