A Popular musical work by a 19th/20th century French composer based on a ballad published 100 years previously by a 18th/19th century German poet. What was it called
I don't think it was "The Threepenny Opera" - this was based on English poet and author John Gay's "The Beggar's Opera" and written by Kurt Weill and Berthold Brecht - both German but 19th/20th Century not 18th/19th Century
And I don't think there is any French connection with "The Threepenny Opera" or "The Beggar's Opera"
I think it's "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" by the French Composer Paul Dukas (1865-1935) based on a ballad -Der Zauberlehrling - by the German poet Goethe
