Bizzare Figure of a Man !!!! Help

It looks a bit like the 'lucky' pixie (Wad the Chad???) that used to be sold to the gullible for luck in the 60's magazine small adds.

This is pure guesswork, chris! My first thought was a Chinese peasant farmer perhaps sowing some kind of crop, then husband said it was a South or Central American (also peasant) playing an instrument ( drum?)

The ears do look a bit pointy, but I don't think it's Joan the Wad - Queen of the Piskies. If you find the definitive answer elsewhere please let me know - it's certainly a fascinating figure.

The hat suggests a Chinese peasant; the bowl-shaped thing might be one of those thingies for tossing rice or grain in the air, and letting the wind filter out the lighter leafy bits so that the heavier grain can be caught in the thingy. Or it might be someone panning for gold.

All i can tell you is last month a figure very like that 1 featured in Crimewatch it had been stolen from some house.
