Memories of a childhood and a painting...
I watched a PBS (USA) program on Spain yesterday evening and a part of it dealt with the paintings of El Greco. His style reminded me of a painting, probably a print, which hung in my home throughout my childhood. It was a painting of God and, I believe, three cherubs. God had a long, white beard and white, flowing robes. He was seated facing 1/4 left, with a winged cherub above his left shoulder and two cherubs at his knees, one of which had reached up and grasped God's beard. All my life I had wondered about the history of that painting and now, thanks to the Internet, I am able to search and, hopefully, learn more about it. Another artist, Rubens, seems, to my un-trained eye, to depict cherubs in a similar style, also but, after reviewing nigh on to 5,000 paintings now, I have not come anywhere near identifying this painting, Does anyone on Earth know the answer?
