where do the addresses go on a professional letter?

The sender's address goes on the very top right hand side of the letter, but should not be given if the letter is headed. You then move down a line, go to the left hand side and type in date and any references. Then the recipient's address goes in below those on the left hand side. Hope that's clear. It's much easier to show than to describe!
