My Father used to quote a line from a poem (?) of which he could only remember one line, which was:-
"I dreamt I dwelled in marble halls"
Does anyone know any more about this - or where it comes from ?

I think this poem might actually be a song, and the words your dad used to quote were some of the lyrics. Sorry I can't be more specific.
Are you thinking of "Hallelujah" Ice.Maiden??

"baby i've been here before
i've seen this room and i've walked this floor
i used to live alone before i knew you
i've seen your flag on the marble arch
but love is not a victory march
it's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah "
Enya sang one version.
Here's a a lovely version of it, sung by Aled Jones:

He still has it, don't you think?
Personally I prefer Enyas version, but each to his (or her) own
