Her Cross by Lawson Wood

I saw this beautiful picture in a restaurant some years ago and since then have tried to purchase a print of this painting. The original painting is displayed in a house made of tin cans in Australia. I have sent hundreds of emails, trying to find a print, I�ve even contacted the Australian Embassy & Government to no avail. The picture depicts a 1st World War widow with her head on her arms and a sword & medal in front of her. Chrissmiff 02/08/04

Yes, He is famous for he's laughing policemen which makes "her cross" totaly out of character. I've tried your link but alas no beautiful lady. These where the type of site I sent the hundreds of emails

I don't know about a print but have seen this picture as a postcard. It was issued during WW1. I did not know it was by Lawson Wood. Have you tried ebay?

I try ebay at regular intervals, but my great success was finding the original painting in Australia. Unfortunatly I've now lost this website, but the picture was on display & I was even able to take a copy of the picture and place it on my desktop. The quality was pretty poor and done little justice to the artist.

Tried the National Gallery, or is there a book/books of his work? That site were/are the trustees of his work so if they can't/won't help, then sorry I'm stuck. His house in Sussex?

Chrissmiff:  I was online today researching a picture my girlfriend has hanging on her wall at home. It was handed down from her mother, possibly came from Engalnd. It a girl resting her head on her arms holding a cross and it is called " her cross " and is signed by Lawson Wood. It has some handwriting on the back in some other lamguage and it apears to be old. We are trying to get any information we can about the artist.

I'm sorry I can't give you any more information other than in my original question. I know that Lawson Wood is famous for painting Laughing Policemen and despite visiting the National Gallery, they were unable to help. It has now become a "quest" for me to obtain a print of this beautiful painting, so any information you manage to source yourselves I would be so gratefull to receive

I have just inherited this painting, not the original obviously. Nor is it a print it is a copy and at the bottom it says "From an original by Lawson Wood".

Hello I hope its not too late and you've given up the search but I think I can help. I was cleaning out the attic the other day and came across HER CROSS and have it listed on Ebay - if you're interested. I was looking up some information for the description when I came across your search.

I have just found this very print in a bric a brac shop in my town . It was in the window when the shop was closed, as I work full time I gave my mum money to quickly get it for me on the Monday .its beautiful with a heavy black wooden frame . Beautiful as I love this era xx
