Well as far as I'm concerned it's well worth a read and highly amusing. I guess it depends on the kind of literature you enjoy. Yes, it's dated, but then it's bound to be.
Thank you for your answer. I really enjoyed Three Men in a Boat, and that was dated, but it didn't spoil it at all.
Some humour just doesn't age well, so I was just wondering. But if you think it's funny, I'll give it a go.
If you liked TMIAB, you'll probably enjoy Diary of a Nobody. I read it as 'extra reading' to a study module on Victorian society and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's very funny - funnier than the dramatisation, even.
It is dated, but still relevant! I joked just last week with a colleague at work who bought a laminator, and went round the house trying to find things to laminate, just as Pooter goes round with his red paint daubing everything in sight from the doorstop to the enamel bath. I called my colleague Pooterish and he fortunately understood the joke!
It's deservedly a classic that bears returning to every few years, and still makes me laugh out loud.
